Hi all, I am Nugent, a fellow wasteland enthusiast and wannabe mod-maker. I found your forum from duck and cover site (http://www.duckandcover.cx/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27215). In the tactics section. Reading this DaC post I had to come here and talk to you about my project, because you might be interested by it. Since you seems to love both FOnline and Tactics I figured you might like the idea behind my project. Did any of you had time to check it? I need feedback from fonline players because some mechanics will be similar so I need to get them right and know what is missing/badly done. If it ends up like FOnline but with FOT graphics in a MMO I would definitely be interested in trying it out. As a former Fallout Tactics members from the old days on Gamespy I have long wondered why no one has tried this. Keep me informed regularly if you can. It will in the PvP aspect and other things like character creation and quests. But there will be main differences and (I hope) improvements. Mainly it is an open world setting, so there is no world map and exit grids. You just keep walking in the same huge map until you reach a natural map border like cliff or ocean. Like in tactics, you can crouch and prone your player and mutants and ghouls have full weapons and running animations so 3 races can be used fully (if balance is done right). I hope to have working vehicles running around players like in tactics for faster travel and road kills. I want dynamic map modifications possible to support exploding walls with rockets, and building barricades and other stuff. |

How big of a world would you intend this to be? Like how long to walk or drive across it? How would the cities work? And how would people's loot work? I am going to have some more time tomorrow to take a look at what you're doing. Excited to see this thing go if it does! I think the world will grow at the pace of mapping goes. Maybe something like 5 minutes to cross by foot for a start, I really don't know how much map that require. I need to avoid emptyness feeling so if I have no content to put in, I will just keep the map small until I have something. Also fast travel can be used to teleport player across the world (trains/caravans...). Currently I'm testing on this map: trello-attachments.s3.amazonaws.com/55fc68f3b9206e76b8e59555/6144x3072/61830f3362722dda2cd31f72ddec191a/worldmap.jpgIt takes 1min45s to walk a shore side by running. I still want a little "DayZ" vibe with lot of wild terrain with low population for survival side. The issue I see with cities currently is if I want a guarded town but no exit grid, how do I transition between guarded and unguarded without abuses on the border. I don't know yet. Otherwise usual MMO city with merchants, quest givers and idling area for players. Personal spaces will be needed so maybe appartments with keys or something. When you die you would loose all your stuff. The issue here is rather, where you respawn? close to death zone or back to your base? either choices have issues so I don't know. I still have time to figure these game mechanics, because nothing is done yet. FTM I concentrate on the engine and tools. |

What kind of time frame are you looking at? I like idea of having a new home for us after FOnline Reloaded. This could be a success if it's well advertised with in the Fallout community and more so since we haven't really had an online open world using Fallout Tactics.. It has to have PVP aspects but should offer a equally Acceptable and fun PVE element.
