I have been looking into purchasing Axies and Allies and i can't decide between the RTS version of the Hasbro 1998 Interactive version.. I am a big fan of RISK so i am leaning more towards the old one.
does anyone have either of these? if so what's the best one.

The RTS version is a disaster. Absolutely terrible.
The Hasbro 1998 version is good, and the AI competent but is only a copy of the basic/original version of Axis and Allies from 1984. There was an expanded/RARE version of this called Axis and Allies Iron Blitz, which is the best version.
Better yet though, and something you can get for FREE and is vastly superior to both of the above versions, but has terrible/broken AI is TripleA.
triplea.sourceforge.net/
It has an interactive Chatroom, can be played Live, by email, or by forum, and hosts over 350 different games, from Risk, to Lord of the rings risk, and every released version of axis and allies from the original, to the ultimate Global.
The original 1984 axis and allies pales in comparison to some of it's modern versions.
If its something like Risk you are looking for, TripleA is by far your best bet.

I will get the 1998 version and install this Triple A. Not sure why if the AI isn't working correctly but i will give it a shot!

TripleA is created by the fans, and is meant predominantly for players vs players. Some of the games will work just fine, like all the versions of Risk etc. But other versions that use air, naval works for example, are a bit too complicated for the AI, and it tends to do nothing, or make mistakes. IF you want a challenge Bison, you can play me any version of Axis and Allies anytime. It's what I do when I'm not Khan Raider Leader
