'Ma's Fruit Juice' it sparkled proudly. Made with the finest of plastic, tri-crone, and slave labour it was sight to behold. It bathed in light a good hunk of the factory like it was high noon. The hum of the electricity and the glow of the bulbs lasted all of half an hour before being silenced for over a century. A mere test run before the factory had its grand opening on Oct. 23 2077.
The factory was a grand achievement all agreed. Built into a valley to tap the underground aquifer and Geothermal heat. Built in record time using "liberated" Canadians, it bypassed all need for safety and hazard laws. Five stories tall and sprawling across 10 acres it was built to last. What money was saved in labour, and safety was put right back into security. Could not have some of those Canadians to get confused and try and wonder off now. Security Bots were painted a a red and white, like an apple. The Canadians who painted them were not lost on the Irony.
During the day of Armageddon the bombs warped and weaved the blanket of Gaia. Making mountains and craters alike. Apple Valley was no exception. Wiping out both sides of the valley in rock slides the factory was left to rust. It stood quite and alert for decades. The security bots doing their rounds looking for trouble makers, commies, and Union representatives alike. But time always wins. The atomic brains were willing but the bodies built by the lowest bidder could not. One by one they stopped their clanking and became statues attributing man's folly. If it was not for an earthquake to open up a pass to the factory, they would have rusted to nothing.
As luck would have it a Brotherhood of Steel caravan was passing that way and investigated. It did not take them long to relies that with some tender loving care and a little modding it could supply fresh, clean water and become a wonderful base of operations. Stage Two was being implemented when the Khans arrived and mucking up those plans.
Rumours and rumblings of a great number of Brotherhood movements to the North were heard. Gargantua has people investigate and report back. The reports did not look promising. A large building still upright? With working lights? Its own water supply? But worst of all a functioning robot? This needed serious looking into. He had General Bison look into it personally. What he brought back even put the short hairs on his neck up. NEW robot parts, freshly milled and shiny. Enough for a score of robots. It hinted at a massive shift in power, and power could not be shifted any way but the Khan way. It was time for a battle, no a war. All or nothing. He made plans, he schemed schemes. Hell he even got General Bison's personal death squad on his side. He explained that if this place could at one time make juice, and was now making safe drinking water, it would be made to make something even more important then water, Booze.
End of Chapter One.
Stories not done, but I got to go. Do not have internet at my place yet. Writing this at a library computer. Keep strong my fellow Khans.
